South Australia: Man dies in horror truck crash that closed Eyre Highway

A young man has died and a major highway linking two states is closed following a horror truck crash in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

South Australia Police said a 31-year-old man died when a truck and his Lexus SUV collided at 2.15am on the Eyre Highway at Lincoln Gap.

The Ceduna man, the sole occupant of the SUV, died in the crash.

The truck driver, a 60-year-old man from Quorn, sustained serious injuries in the crash and paramedics took him to Port Augusta Hospital.

He is in a stable condition and is expected to be flown to Adelaide for further treatment.

Major Crash investigators had flown to the scene, police said on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eyre Highway, which connects to Western Australia, is closed between Caroona Rd and Press Rd and it will likely remain closed for several more hours.

Light vehicles are detouring via Caroona Rd, while heavy vehicles are parked up at both ends of the closure.

The man’s death marks the 109th life lost on South Australian roads in 2023 compared with 66 at the same time last year.
